Holographic Window31 Jan 2006 12:50 GMT13
If I could:
1. Create a large (1m by 1m) grid of detectors that measured the
intensity, frequency and phase of light falling on them.
2. Hang said detector on the outside of a building.
Software for beginners?31 Jan 2006 04:43 GMT5
I've been goofing with lenses, prisms and mirrors and have read
Popular Optics published by Edmunds. But I was thinking that some
graphical software that showed ray tracing would be faster than
drawing the graphs on paper. Especially with my clumsy hands. I found

Looking for fiber optic patch cord30 Jan 2006 21:11 GMT3
I am looking for a fiber optic patch cord for VIS-NIR spectroscopy.
1000um core, with SMA connectors.  Edmund Optics is 4 weeks backordered,
though they have the raw cable in stock.  So, I need to find either:
Someone who stocks a 1000um fiber optic patch cord with SMA connectors
Home-Built Er:YAG30 Jan 2006 18:38 GMT3
I am in the market for a semi home-built pulsed solid state laser. My
original thoughts were a Nd:YAG due to its availablity but I recently
came across a Er:YAG rod and both a OC (90%) and HR both coated for
Er:YAG.  Together their cost is about $50US. I was wondering how hard
Laser Physics Reliant repairs30 Jan 2006 17:20 GMT3
Wondering if anyone knows where I can get a 250mW Laser physics argon
repaired.  Tube is intact and unit powers up but does not emit a beam.
Fairly low hours on tube so it may be a supply problem.
Thanks
UV 365nm through plastic30 Jan 2006 15:38 GMT2

Which plastics are the best to use when transmitting UV light at 365nm ?
Also considering that the plastic must be stable at the highest possible
temperature.
Video Microscopy30 Jan 2006 14:57 GMT2
We just upgraded our video microscopy systems from tape to DVD.  Great
improvement in quality, but there is a bit of a problem.  We
occasionally like to capture short clips to show during talks, or as
supplemental info for papers.  Problem with the DVD is that there
Microscope Fasteners30 Jan 2006 01:40 GMT5
I recently received an old Nikon microscope that was built in the
1960's. It had been damaged and needed several of the fasteners
(screws) replaced. When I went to replace them, I find that the metric
screws (3m x 0.5) available at the local Ace Hardware will not fit

attempt to render the famous CIE chromaticity chart (1931 version).
Cheap(er) Schott Glass?28 Jan 2006 12:52 GMT1
Many of the long pass and band pass optical filters sold by optical
suppliers are in fact pieces of Schott Colored Glass, cut into
small pieces, with nicely finished edges, and sold at high prices.
Schott is a glass manufacturer, so I can understand why they may not

Stains27 Jan 2006 19:58 GMT2
I have received a large quantity of microscopic stains after a lab has
closed. After some reading on the internet, several stains have to be
prepared with alcohol (ethanol). This is quiet expensive. In our local
chemistery-shop, some denaturated ethanol is available, yet colored ...
15mW HeNe power supply question27 Jan 2006 13:01 GMT2
I recently purchased a used Melles Griot laser tube.
It is model number 05-LHP-151-289 and claims to be a 15mW max output at
632.8nm
I need to purchase a power supply for this unit but I do not know what
