Working distance vs. front focal length01 Jun 2007 00:48 GMT3
What is the difference, if any, between working distance and front focal
length?
I realize that the front focal length is only defined for thick lenses,
but essentially all real lenses are thick lenses.
optics in furniture31 May 2007 20:47 GMT11
I am designing a "game table". One aspect of this, is a polycarbonate
list, which I want to have special optic properties. Since I am
completely blank in this issue, I would like somebody to solve this
problem for me. (no cure, no pay based). Who takes the challence?
Correction collar not working31 May 2007 19:58 GMT10
Dear Group,
Today I have a question regarding a mechanical-optical malfunction of
a microscope objective made by a major manufacturer.
The objective is a 40x, Plan Apo with correction collar.
Highspeed computing using fiberoptics31 May 2007 06:21 GMT6
Highspeed computing using fiberoptics:
Using the formula
  lambda = c / f
where c is the speed of light in m per sec (= 3E8 m)
multi-line argon laser question31 May 2007 04:28 GMT13
I just recently purchased a 25mw multi-line argon laser and am using a
600 lines/mm diffraction grating to separate the beams.
Now excuse me for a possibly stupid question, but is there a more
efficient way of doing this? The 0'th order beam is  very bright telling

Q: optical effect29 May 2007 17:57 GMT14
I am the excited new owner of a Zeiss Ultraphot III with a near complete
set of luminar, epi-luminar, and epiplan-pol/DIC lenses.  The scope was
originally specified for metallurgical (i.e. reflected light) work.
I don't understand why there appears to be no color information to
Spectrosopy29 May 2007 12:09 GMT8
I have what may seem to be a simple question.
I understand emission spectra. I also understand absorption
spectra. If you have an excited media, it will emit spectral
lines. Conversely, a media will absorb on those same spectral
MICROSCOPY ADVICE28 May 2007 15:15 GMT5
I have been reading the comments in the sci.techniques.microscopy
group and I am impressed with the high level of knowledge that Kevin
has about microscopes. Hpe he read this.
I was given a used microscope  CORRECT TOKIO of SEIWA OPTICAL, in a

Laser Pointer from a Laser Printer?28 May 2007 06:38 GMT4
Hi, I have been scavenging printers for stepper motors (a completely
different project) and happened across a laser diode + optics that
seems to be in pretty good condition.  I have been interested in
lasers for a while and thought I might as well try to get it running.

college level optics lab25 May 2007 20:06 GMT4
I'd like to teach myself a home optics lab course covering the same material
as a college optics lab course. That takes, among other things, equipment and
a syllabus. Any idea of how much that would cost and how to obtain it at that
price? One advantage of doing it on my own is that ...
