astronomical calculations29 Feb 2008 21:18 GMT5
I'm working on the design of solar collection optics, and trying to
calculate the meridional and sagittal angles of the sun (for a given
altitude & elevation) relative to a tilted plane. My brain hurts!
Has anyone out there (maybe working with imaging astronomical objects with a
Convex mirrors for MIR28 Feb 2008 19:55 GMT1
Hello fellows- I'm doing some research about convex mirros working in the
middle infrared (7µm-14µm, e.g. gold coated). All I found so far are mirrors
with max diameter 5cm, but I need bigger ones like 10cm and more.
Have you got suggestions for suppliers of these mirrors?
Edge-cutting Laser Pointer Plus Laser Presenter Boosts User Ability28 Feb 2008 17:43 GMT1

Popular laser pointer now also serves wireless laser presenter with
Power Point compatible function delivering high work efficiency. This
kind of Laser Pointer with Page Up down Function is the best choice
FRED vs ZEMAX28 Feb 2008 15:20 GMT4
Hello Fellows,
does anybody have experience with ZEMAX and FRED? I am using ZEMAX at the
moment and think about trying out FRED.
Maybe somebody can tell some differences, advantages and disadvantages of
Hand made electrostatic machines28 Feb 2008 08:17 GMT6
A friend has been building a variety of electrotatic machines - Wimshurst,
Voss and Bonetti machines - as a passtime but has recently started listing
them on eBay. If you are interested in this kind of thing, you should
probably take a look. I dont know how many of these things he ...
Divergence Vs Focus27 Feb 2008 01:14 GMT11
All the answers that I received regarding my question about
"Peak Power vs. Continuous Power" have left me thinking about
focus and collimation.
If an average laser has a divergence of 1 milliradian, how can
dental nd-yag laser programming26 Feb 2008 10:30 GMT1
I recently became owner of a Sunlase 800 dental laser. It fires OK in
test mode, but in normal mode it gives a power-on selftest error of
the controller. The voltage calibration tables seems to be faulty but
I cant figure out how to reprogram the tables.
Outdoor Laser Show Need Help on Laser size 20"x20" White screen25 Feb 2008 11:04 GMT2
Ok I have 2 argon /krypton tandem pairs the argon p= 6W all lines the
Krypton is @ 1.8 Watts at 30 amps. Both tubeshave less than 1000 hrs.
Krypton 700 hrs Argon 900. They are SP 168 Heads.
Now I have never done a full animation outdoor show! Concerts yes,
have a few queries..25 Feb 2008 01:21 GMT2
I'm trying to write a ray tracer  and I'm supposed to include
diffraction effect as well as creeping rays. I have been told to look
into Geometrical Theory of diffraction. Can anyone explain this theory
to me in layman terms as my field is computer science and it would be
Technical question24 Feb 2008 18:04 GMT9
Dear Colleagues,
I have a quite easy technical question. I need to split the laser beam
and then keep them paralel something like 2mm from each other. The
laser beam is TEM00, wavelength 1um, about 100W and not polarized.
Blu-ray 405nm diode24 Feb 2008 05:57 GMT6
I would like a 100mW 405 laser for my microscope setup.  I see some
50mW are
sold for $8000 (Coherent Cube).  How feasible is it to take out the
diode

Incorrect Seidel aberration calculations in lens design codes23 Feb 2008 18:04 GMT12
ZEMAX at top of its Seidel table says the results are good only for
symmetric spherical and conic systems but it DOES take into account
4th order term on an even asphere.  On the other hand it DOES NOT take
into account the contribution of the 2nd order even asphere term to
backward ray tracing23 Feb 2008 13:31 GMT23
can any on explain what this phenomenon actually is and why its better
than forward ray tracing.
