Superpositioned photon incident on Polarizing Beam Splitter24 Feb 2005 22:47 GMT1
I'm wondering what happens when a photon in a polarization
superposition state ( |H> + |V> , disregarding normalization) is
incident upon a polarizing beam splitter. Does the PBS make the state
collapse into either H or V, sending the photon in one direction for
Landau tome IV (QED)24 Feb 2005 22:47 GMT3
I just want your opinion : I haven't read the Landau & Lifchitz book
on QED, but I know its reputation. So, do you think this book is a bit
old now, or not at all ?
To Mr. whopkins@csd.uwm.edu, Inside23 Feb 2005 10:02 GMT1
I appreciate your posts and input and would like to communicate further and
have some questions, but my emails to whopkins@csd.uwm.edu seem to bounce.
Can you please privately Email me how to get in touch directly with you.
Thanks.
Is Faster-than-light Communication Possible?23 Feb 2005 10:01 GMT14
Dear group, recently I have written a paper on the possiblity of sending
faster-than-light signals using entangled photons.  I have shown it to
several people and I have not yet received any feedback on it.  I also
sent a copy to arxiv.org but it was rejected and no reason was given ...
de Broglie's original thesis is now on the net. What are de Broglie waves?23 Feb 2005 09:59 GMT11
A translation of De Broglie's original 1925 doctoral thesis and paper
in the Annals of Physics is available at:

For fans of the history of science this paper is a 'must'.
geometric quantization and non-integrable systems23 Feb 2005 09:58 GMT1
I've had a look at various places (archives of this newsgroup and links
and references found there) and would like to clear up the following
question (obviously I have only very limited understanding of these
issues, please bear with me).
renormalization in nonperturbative QT23 Feb 2005 09:56 GMT4
I've just been starting to study Peskin and Schroeder seriously, and
I'm wondering: do we only need renormalization if we use perturbation
methods, or do we have to renormalize in nonperturbative QFT as well?
I've looked around for a while and couldn't find a clear answer on this.
Formation of Closed Timelike Curves with Morris-Thorne wormholes20 Feb 2005 23:04 GMT5
I'm reviewing some basic results from the Morris, Thorne, and Yurtsever
paper "Wormholes, Time Machines, and the Weak Energy Condition" (Phys.
Rev. Lett., Volume 61, Number 13), and I would like to check my conclusions.
First, I'll assume that a traversable Lorentzian wormhole is ...
Simple demo of possible Time Dilation Flaw19 Feb 2005 08:49 GMT3
The 1971 Flights Experiment both planes flying at the same speed but in
opposite direction (EAST/WEST) had the SAME TIME DILATION

Particle accelerators for sale?19 Feb 2005 08:49 GMT8
Suppose for a moment, that as a bored computer programmer, I one day
decided to refresh my memory about partile physics. Suppose further,
that in the process, I decided to view light as a stream of particles
and came up with formulae to calculate both the diameter and mass of

weihs 1998 bell experiment reexamined for H/V "independence"19 Feb 2005 08:47 GMT2
recently I have been attempting to zoom in on a
particular loophole in bell experiments.
consider the following seeming paradox. for one arm
of the bell experiment, qm makes the following predictions:
How to get a paper published as an independent unknown19 Feb 2005 08:46 GMT14
For a number of years have been doing independent research into the question
of why the Fermions have the masses they have, and believe I have made a
significant breakthrough in the past two months and can now predict these
lepton masses.
hyperbolic manifold18 Feb 2005 17:45 GMT2
I study hamiltonians on configuration spaces of negative curvature -1
which the mathematicians call hyperbolic. Does anyone know if these
spaces have physical meanings?
Thanks in advance,
reliability of error bars for fundamental constants18 Feb 2005 17:44 GMT2
I'm trying to find an article I remember reading in the American Journal
of Physics 10+ years ago, but can't seem to track down, and I'm hoping
someone remembers it and can give me the correct citation.  The article
likely postdates fall 1983 because that's when my Am.J.Phys ...
