Variety Cultivar or Form, how do I know ?28 Oct 2005 21:49 GMT13
For no other reason than it interests me I'm trying to get my head

From a standing start I know that there are various naming schemes (if

I'm looking for some papers/monographies/books about the Serenoa Repens
plant. Do you know any valuable resource about it?
In particular I need documentation about its history, flowers and seeds.
Thanks.

hopi crabapple in blooms and this is 15 October22 Oct 2005 23:56 GMT6
Stunning! A neighbors crabapple tree is in bloom. It is a cultivar of
Hopi malus crabapple. Most of its leaves have fallen and I see
pink-red-white blooms. Has anyone else observed such plant activity? Is
it the global warming that has tricked the tree into the metabolism of

Another S. African oddity -- Larryleachia?17 Oct 2005 12:17 GMT1
Hi again folks,
Here's a link to my vote for single coolest plant I've ever seen.  I've
tentatively named "her" Lucille -- definitely a punker plant.
Obviously an Apocynad, maybe a Larryleachia???  Photographed in Goegap

simple way to introduce my students to these so widely spread substances.

A few years ago I found this plant near Ibadan, Nigeria, apparently
parasitic (since only non-chlorophyllous parts seem to come above the
soil surface).  It was in a mixed orchard of Theobroma cacao and Cola
