Autumn Olive freeze/kill?23 May 2007 04:47 GMT1
Three large Autumn Olive bushes (Central Ohio) bloomed and then froze,
which I'd expect would prevent any fruit from forming.
Instead it seems so far to have prevented any but a very few isolated
leaves from sprouting, in addition.  It looks like a bare year, at
Malvaceae s.l.18 May 2007 10:47 GMT14
I was just browsing through the new Heywood book, and could not help feeling
gratified at the approach chosen with regard to the Malvaceae situation. I

Went on a field trip in the past few days to find Ulmus racemosa Rock-
Elm seed. Found none this year.
Don't whether it was due to a April frost or a skipping of annual
production. Plenty of Siberian Elm seeds
clogged plumbing03 May 2007 14:51 GMT2
The plumber was just in my apartment to clear a clogged bathroom sink.
He pulled up the drain stopper and pointed out that it was all covered
with something he called "bacteria". It extended down to fill up the
trap. He snaked the pipe and let the debris fall into a bucket, which
What is this nut tree?02 May 2007 21:37 GMT6
This small tree grows along roadsides close to the bank of the Colo
river west of Sydney. This is a warm temperate zone, with good
rainfall.

Variegated Hop Question02 May 2007 13:33 GMT4
I have an old male Hop (Humulus Lupulus) from which late in the
season has budded out a variegated shoot (direct from rhizome).
The first two pictures are of a rooted cutting of the shoot.
The third picture is another cutting taken later from that cutting which
