test for methanol in fondue fuel using thermochemistry30 Sep 2004 18:51 GMT3
could you give me some clues on how to test for methanol in a solution
(using thermochemistry)?
SI standard of mass30 Sep 2004 18:32 GMT3
Once again this NG can't do its job because of a very small number of
polluters.
I'm sure plenty of potential readers who have presumably gone elsewhere,
would like to know why, for very good reasons, this is the last SI unit
chemistry equilibrium30 Sep 2004 16:46 GMT3
2NO2(g) <=> N2O4(g)
138g of N2O4 were put into a vessel of volume 4.00 dm^3. At
equilibrium 17.25g of NO2 were present. Calculate
a) the no. of moles initially present and the no. of moles of NO2 at
Glass fibre pottery30 Sep 2004 15:14 GMT8
Just a quick thought.
Is reinforcing pottery by mixing in glass fibre (carbon fibre?) with the clay
any use?
solubility of sulfur30 Sep 2004 14:43 GMT3
I've been searching the web and the groups on here but I still cannot
find an answer to my question of why S or sulfide would decompose when
in a solvent, rather than just stay a sulfide ion.

equation of state for high pressure liquid30 Sep 2004 05:00 GMT4
Dose anyone know about equation of state for a high pressure liquid
(water)?
the pressure is about 1000bar and temperature is about 180 degree
I think maybe the vanderwaals equation is suitable for description of
Copper (II) sulphate and iron filings reaction29 Sep 2004 16:33 GMT5
If Copper (II) sulphate and some iron filings react, and a Fe 2+ ion
is produced, does this mean that that the SO4 part of the compound is
charged at 2-??
Thanks for the help
Chemistry is EVIL, the DEVIL invented it !29 Sep 2004 00:16 GMT15
Chemistry is EVIL, it's the work of the devil, made to collect your
souls and to turn you into brainless slaves of hell.
If you like chemistry, you will lose your soul to be damned
for eternal torment in hell.Demons and devils will feast on your soul

Dears participants;
This questioning can certainly cover the interests and competence of
some members. I am in charge of a relatively recent organization that
aim – between others activities - to dedicate itself to the
Bond length and separation27 Sep 2004 14:41 GMT2
Can someone please help me with the following problem.
The microwave spectrum of (1)H(127)I consists of a series of lines
separated by 12.8 cm^-1. Compute its bond length. What would be the
separation of (2)H(127)I?
Why are some alkaline earth metal complexes  colored?27 Sep 2004 06:13 GMT11
Why do some alkaline earth metals form colored complexes? A common
example is that of red 1:1 calcium complex with Eriochrome Black-T,
the IUPAC of which is sodium salt of
3-Hydroxy-4-[(1-hydroxy-2-naphthalenyl)azo]-7-nitro-1-naphthalenesulfonic
Are thorium-compounds dangerous ?27 Sep 2004 00:50 GMT19
I heard that thorium-compounds are dangerous.
Is that true or just an urban-myth?
What are chemisty lab benches made out of?27 Sep 2004 00:28 GMT6
I was wondering what the smooth black stone-like surface is that they
make chemistry and physics benches out of. I want to make a
breakfast-room table top out of it, as I like the flat black smooth
look/feel of it.

color changes in metal26 Sep 2004 19:44 GMT8
Can any one help me with A chemical reaction to metal that will result
in a color change to a patina green ? This is a surface reaction that
will change the color of the metal. I have used this method many years
ago and the chemical name slipped my mind.
