I'm looking for information about fluoro and fluoro polymers when used
in the field of optical fiber. Do enyone know anything about this

Question: water-soluble thickeners31 Mar 2005 21:38 GMT12
Hi all, I have a quick question.
I'm looking for food additive information for an art project.  The
goal is to use a water soluble thickener to form a large transparent
block of material.
Metal Prices31 Mar 2005 15:12 GMT1
What is the approximate current retail price/Kg in the United States for these
two metals? Any help

Poop31 Mar 2005 06:38 GMT7
An hour ago I filled the toilet up to the top. Judging from my weight before
and after pooping, there was about 12 pounds of poop. Has anyone had this kind
of amount of poop before? I like the feeling of a massive amount comming out at
once that I have to stuff myself every couple ...
Can water vapor condense/fall as water instantly?31 Mar 2005 02:38 GMT14
Is it possible for a mass of water vapor to instantly condense/fall as
water?  Through human intervention or natural causes, of course.  If
so, how?  I'm a science fiction writer and I just wondered if this is
a plausible phenomenon.

Best biochemistry books ?30 Mar 2005 06:26 GMT4
biochem is far behind me, yet I have a strong desire to brush up on
it, and I should add, that I'm detail oriented--therefore I need a
detailled textbook. I've browsed Amazon for such books, but the wide
array of them makes it a real hassle for me to pick one out--Ineed
Chlorination question30 Mar 2005 04:18 GMT3
We are doing soduim hypochlorite to RO permeate. The hypo solution was found
to actually increas the pH. By Increasing the pH,it's working against itself
reducing free chlorine.
Do we need pH adjustment when disinfecting with Soduim Hypo?
Ethylene Oxide reaction!!!30 Mar 2005 00:25 GMT2
I would try EO on RC to do process development and monitor reaction
change.Does anyone have such experience?
Solubility Rules29 Mar 2005 23:02 GMT5
I am learning chemistry on my own. I've come across "solubility rules"
at http://www.chem.vt.edu/RVGS/ACT/notes/solubility_rules.html
I'm wondering if these are really rules predicted by equations, or just
observations. I would imagine they actually are rules, because

when peaks are a little bit different in width and retentiontime

Spectrophotometer Help29 Mar 2005 09:51 GMT13
I am working on a mini-chemistry project which involves the use of a
spectophotometer to measure the absorbance of certain solutions. The
spectophotometer is a single beam, 300-900nm range unknown
brand/manufacturer. This is how i'd been working with the instrument:
Chemical derivatization of OH in tyrosine28 Mar 2005 20:36 GMT6
Does anyone know of  an efficient way to attack the OH group in
tyrosine (tyrosine is not free but as part of a peptide). Any high
efficient modification would work, the only requirement is to change
the group to something non ionisable.
Waching paint dry28 Mar 2005 17:14 GMT1
When painting an old bare concrete floor with oil based enamel, it's
tempting to pour the paint on thickly enough to fill holes -- a purpose
for which it was not designed.
The paint forms a rubbery surface layer, of course, like in a poorly
