Luminol Synthesis31 Oct 2005 23:18 GMT2
The preparation http://cas.bellarmine.edu/chem117a/lab/luminol.htm,
involves triethylene glycol for heating the mixture of hydrazine anf
3-nitrophthalic acid to around 210 oC for dehydration. Does anybody
know of a common (safe) high boling substitute? Pardoning my ignorance
Designing a molecule from scratch31 Oct 2005 21:01 GMT19
Suppose one needs to design a new molecule with known properties, what
is the general established procedure to do just that? For example, what
are the reference books and required concepts to make the molecule work
"on paper"?

Chemiluminescent Titrations31 Oct 2005 15:01 GMT2
Have a look at this, a really beautiful way of locating the end point.

Most likely they are using luminol and KOH as a titrant. A slight
excess of the titrant _catalyzes_ the chemiluminescence by H2O2

Parafilm vs. Duraseal31 Oct 2005 01:22 GMT3
Doses anyone have any information on tendency of proteins to adsorb to these
films? (I realize that, in reality, this needs to be evaluated on a
case-by-case basis for each protein, but I was curious to see if there is
any published literature on it.)
Removing Gold Plating From Copper30 Oct 2005 21:57 GMT8
In return for the good advice I received from this group I would like
to share my results of removing gold from gold plated copper on PCBs,
which has a nickel barrier.
Make a saturated solution of potassium iodide in water and then add 65g
Ways to reduce pump pulsations29 Oct 2005 05:45 GMT2
i'm using a 5 GPM rotary (flexible liner) pump and need to reduce the
pulsations as much as possibe. The working pressure is less than 40 psi.
Most pulse dampeners in the market are either for high flows/pressure
and are also terribly expensive. Are there simple and economical ...
desalinization29 Oct 2005 05:23 GMT1
What is the current state of the art for treating brackish / sea water
for drinking?
I'm guessing that reverse osmosis and ion exchange (with acidic and
basic resin) are some of the cheaper ways of creating potable water
Total P analysis problem28 Oct 2005 22:50 GMT1
I am analyzing Total-P in wastewater, and occasionally my samples will
turn yellow instead of the typical molybdenum blue.  In some rare
cases, the yellow will fade during the exposure time after adding the
color reagent, and the analysis can continue with normal results.  In
Removing gold with Potassium Iodide + Iodine WORKs!28 Oct 2005 09:20 GMT15
I have removed the gold off some experimental printed circuit boards
using:
65g Iodine
113g Potassium Iodide
possible methanol contamination- uv spec27 Oct 2005 02:02 GMT1
hi was wondering if anybody could help me out,
i used some ethanol we use in the lab for sterilising plate spreaders
in part of a purification process the other day and someone else
(admittidly a phd student so more senior and probably right) reckoned
Why can't some fuel cells operate in reverse?26 Oct 2005 18:47 GMT3
Many of us are aware that hydrogen fuel cells can be run in reverse
mode (electrolysis of water).
Why then can't methanol fuel cells be also run in reverse? Can someone
present a strong thermodynamic argument?

Hello All,
This question has no relation to fluorescence.

How to create a silane solution.25 Oct 2005 16:48 GMT9
I have a requirement to improve the adhesion of an epoxy to ground BK7
glass. From my research it seems like a silane pre-treat of the surface
involved might give me what I need.
I have sourced a quantity of '3 - Aminopropyltrimethoxysilane', but I
