Antimicrobial silver & gold  (tweezers)30 Nov 2005 19:37 GMT3
I understand that silver is known to have antimicrobial properties.
Does gold also have the same properties?
Is this why gold is used to plate the end of some domestic-use
tweezers?
Copper Sulphate - information about30 Nov 2005 13:47 GMT22
I'm looking for some information on Copper (II) Sulphate, CuSO4 5*H20.
I find i very difficult to track down any information on the crystal
structure, the chemical bonds, the position of the crystal water and other
such thinks.
unknown compound?30 Nov 2005 00:10 GMT4
here is the question...(2 parts)
A 0.464g sample of a compound containing the elements carbon ,
hydrogen, oxygen , and sulphur was burned completely, yielding 0.969g
CO2 and 0.198g H2O. In a separate experiment, all the sulphur in

is it possible to react a mixture of NO2 and NO  with methane or in
other words can NO be used in place of oxygen to burn methane.

EPA Method 1664- Oil and Grease29 Nov 2005 16:30 GMT1
My lab is having a hard time trying to pass the PT study for this
method. We're getting inconsistent low recoveries (surprise, surprise).
We use the Environmental Express StepSaver manifold with Empore SPE
Filters. The flasks are evaporated on a water bath.
Bound acrylonitrile29 Nov 2005 15:58 GMT1
Good afternoon
Could anyone tell me the method of determining the % of bound
acrylonitrile in an acrylonitrile butadiene rubber.
Many thanks
Dip-Coating Copolymer with Mechanical Puller29 Nov 2005 12:46 GMT1
I would like to coat glass 25mm diameter coverslips with a copolymer
solution.  The dipping rate needs to be controlled at approximately 10
mm/min.
I've been looking for a mechanical dip-coating system, but haven't been
Where to charge accumulator with metric valve28 Nov 2005 23:06 GMT2
Any idea where i can charge an accumulator fitted with a metric valve?
i'm staying near 94305. The shops i went to can only work with a US valve.
thanks

Mercury (II) in [HgX4]2-28 Nov 2005 17:53 GMT1
Hey everyone,
Just wondered if anyone knew why the stability constants of mercury
halide complexes [HgX4]2- in aqueous solution increase in the order
F<Cl<Br<I, whereas the Hg-X enthalpies follow the reverse order?
SO3 gas specific heat28 Nov 2005 17:44 GMT6
I cannot find enywhere the specific heat of SO3 gas.
Does somebody know where I can find it for the temperature range of
about 200-600°C?
Thank you
Coordination Equilibrium26 Nov 2005 19:37 GMT1
Calculate [Cu2+] in a solution with [Cu2+]-total = 0,1 M and [NH3] = 1
M where lg k1 = 4,25, lg k2 = 3,61, lg k3 = 2,98, lg k4 = 2,24 and kp =
13,08.
How do you do it?
Why low percent yield?26 Nov 2005 19:17 GMT2
Why is there a low percent yield when removing KNO3 and NaCl from a
solution containing its constituent elements? The process for removal
of KNO3 was to basically bring down the temp. to appr. 5C from about
90C at which point the KNO3 was dissolved in about 50ml of water. As
Energy required to boil water (at room temperature)25 Nov 2005 13:40 GMT22
Let's say I've got one gallon of water, which I plan to evaporate at
room temperature using a vacuum (a regular vacuum, not a zero-point
vacuum or anything exotic like that).  Let's also say I have access to
a vacuum chamber which can pull a vacuum down to 2 kPa absolute.
Chemistry problem....................25 Nov 2005 11:43 GMT2
Help with this question
A beaker with 170mL of 0.1M acetic acid buffer with a pH of 5.20 is
sitting on a benchtop. A student adds 7.60mL of 0.490M HCl solution to
the beaker. How much will the pH change? pKa of acetic acid = 4.76
