Making anti-static carpet spray?31 May 2006 00:12 GMT24
Is there an easy way I could make my own anti-static carpet spray?  The
commercial product is often hard to find.  Of course, pure water works for a
short time, enough to repair one computer.  I've tried adding fabric
softener but it's too strongly scented to use this way.
New *Eng-i* International Initials for Engineers30 May 2006 19:42 GMT2
If you are a FULLY paid-up accrediated Graduate Engineer with any of
the Engineering Societies mentioned below, then you are entitled to use
the new International Initials, *Eng-i* FREE until 1st. January 2007.
Thereafter, there should be a SMALL charge to cover Trademarks, legal
Why does D2O have a higher boiling point than water?30 May 2006 12:36 GMT11
My understanding of hydrogen bonding is that it is due to
delocalization of the bare proton. If this was true one would expect a
heavier nucleus to bond more weakly because delocalization decreases
expoentially with the mass of the partical. Weaker intermolecular bonds
Salicylic acid handling30 May 2006 08:43 GMT5
I have one single question regarding the handling of salicylic acid. This
acid is a very volatile fine powder, which easily adsorb on skin, leading to
unwanted irritation. It also tends to agglomerate and is quite impossible to
solubilize afterwards. So we spread it manually ...
Advice for resolving Cu(NO3)2-3H2O issues?30 May 2006 00:27 GMT13
I am currently trying to synthesize some yttrium barium cuprates
(YBCO-123) and have a paper that references the use of Cu(NO3)2-3H2O as
an initial reagent.  The difficulty that I am having is in that the
copper nitrate is so deliquescent that it is actually partially

Can water be softened after boiling?29 May 2006 20:09 GMT10
I have a problem wish my dish washer after changing the supply from
soft cold water to soft hard water (as I don't have a water softener
other than the dish washer's built-in one), because I wish to save
money by using natural gas to heat the water instead of electricity.

Viscosity Correlation29 May 2006 01:37 GMT3
I am looking for a viscosity correlation to estimate viscosities of
light hydrocarbons gasses.  I have read that the Ely / Hanley method is
a generally accepted one - but can't find any details on it at all
(except that its an EOS / corresponding states method).

Two Platinum Electrodes having Potential Difference28 May 2006 20:37 GMT1
I use Potentiodynamic polarisation scan using Saturated Calomel as
Reference and Platinum electrode as Counter electrode. Platinum
Electrode is a 1cm by 1cm flag type. A few months ago, I started
getting unusual results, and while trying to locate problem, I found

Water to Ink Experiment28 May 2006 11:33 GMT8
I remember as a kid I had a chemistry set that had an experiment that
would change clear water to black and then back to clear again. Does
anyone know what chemicals this used and how the experiment was
performed. I am teaching some chemistry/magic lessons soon and I would
