nitrogen28 Feb 2007 22:53 GMT25
I had a nightmare once that involves chemistry, and I'm wondering if
it's plausible.  If you're in a smell confined cell and someone
is pumping in lots of nitrogen, could it displace the oxygen and
suffocate you?  Note there is a small air opening under the door,

electrochemistry, help!27 Feb 2007 17:04 GMT3
I am really beginning to hate electrochemistry, I just don't get it.
Here is my question:
A pH electrode was used to determine the fluoride concentration of an
unknown sample....why wouldn't a fluoride ion selective electrode have

ethanol-water mixtures26 Feb 2007 21:34 GMT11
The T-x-y diagrams I've seen for ethanol-water mixtures are only valid
for temperatures between 78.5 C and 100 C.
Let's say I have a mixture of 5% ethanol and 95% water (mol fract),
and place it in a container at 40 C, and maintain pressure at 1 atm.
SILICONE26 Feb 2007 17:29 GMT13
Elemental Silicone or polymers of Silicone are what we need for an all
purpose building material.
The Earth has a great abundance of Silicone and so would most other planets,
it is my guess.

triple points26 Feb 2007 10:10 GMT22
According to the phase rule of Gibbs the degrees of freedom d of a
single component system with one mechanical interaction (pressure) is
d=3-M
where M is the number of phases present. Now when there are three
Reactions with iodine26 Feb 2007 02:11 GMT3
In the standardization of iodine solutions (rather I^3- than I2) by sodium
thiosulfate, it is common practice to add sulfuric acid. However the redox
reactions does not seem to require an acidic medium (I3- + 2 S2O4^2- --> 3
I- + S4O6^2-). In their analytical chemistry textbook, ...

The issue of copyright is an important issue of our time. Although I
personally would not use the same strong language as "thermate" I
agree with his perceptive objection and respect his right to the
freedom of speech under the first amendment of the constitution that
