soap smell29 Sep 2007 05:07 GMT5
Why does soap and detergent smell the way they do.  None of their ingredients
even come close to the finished product.  Can anyone tell me?
Thanks.
purifying bismuth27 Sep 2007 20:40 GMT5
Hi everyone, I'm interested in ways to purify bismuth preferably at
home (I'm a hobbyist). I'm interested in making bismuth crystals but
require very pure bismuth to get nice looking crystals. I'd like to
keep from specialty ordering material and purify my own bismuth out of
difference between mass27 Sep 2007 18:33 GMT16
In my book I see that various samples of elements with different
amounts of mass have the same amount of particles, for example a mass
of 26.98 g of Al has 6.022 * 10^23 amount of atoms in it (1 mol) and a
mass of 63.55 g of Cu also has 1 mol of atoms inside, etc. etc
Swimming pool water : Carbonate sodium and Sodium bisulfate27 Sep 2007 05:09 GMT1
I use severals products in swimming pool water:
- Carbonate sodium Na2CO3 as pH balancers <50g,
- Sodium bisulfate HNaO4S as pH balancers <100g,
- sodium dichloroisocyanurate dihydrate as disinfectant water treatment
thinking about solutions26 Sep 2007 17:33 GMT3
I'm slightly used to thinking about polar solutions in polar solvents.
I have no mental pictures at all about solutions in non-polar solvents.
I have Atkins' Physical Chemistry (1979) which helps a little, but not
much. What should I read to get a thorough treatment of the subject
Bullshit on website25 Sep 2007 21:29 GMT3

sporge24 Sep 2007 03:31 GMT1
There has been talk that rec.pyro is dead.  Why, because of this
delinquent that has inundated this group with sporge.
It is not only this Google group that has been attacked though, others
have seen the same thing, yet nobody seems to be able to do anything

Ti coating on copper?24 Sep 2007 00:06 GMT2
Coating Ti onto other metals is a challenge for sure. There are many
unsuccessful attempts to plate them.
In our manufacturing process, we used a lot Ti sheet metal to
manufacture anodizing racks (www.anodizingracksonline.com). The big
Does salt help or hurt nonstick cooking?22 Sep 2007 22:51 GMT5
When frying/braising meat I frequently have problems with sticking and
burning because i try to use as little fat as possible. I know that
salt can raise the boiling point of water reducing scorching but salt
alo can denature some proteins. My experience seems to indicate that
material for roads22 Sep 2007 20:36 GMT1
I was just wondering why no one has developed a material for roads
that doesn't get all messed up in cold weather.

Does anyone have a link to a VSEPR model of a phosphate
functional group? Thanks.

partial charge22 Sep 2007 12:39 GMT20
I simply don't know if partial charge even in simple
molecules as (for example) H-F (hydrofluoric acid)
is an 'observable' in the corresponding Schroedinger
wavefuntcion (my expectation is not). Nevertheless,
CO2 capturing---21 Sep 2007 18:10 GMT5
On the contrary of the rest of the world, I need a lot of C02 (Carbon
dioxide)... something like 30,000 kg daily... Now there are
recuperators that are very complex and expensive, that you can attach
to chimneys... you can also capture CO2 from manure fermenting... does
Silver/silver bromide21 Sep 2007 07:21 GMT2
I have an expensive silver bromide-covered silver anode I
would like to salvage to replate w/silver chloride.  What's the best
>common< chemical to strip the bromide off (no, sandpaper is not
allowed).
