minimal metal31 Mar 2008 00:49 GMT8
In the past, I have asked about the smallest number of atoms or molecules
it takes to have a something that can be regarded as a liquid. I got some
answers and then read in Science News in the last few years that something
like 7 helium atoms were made to be a minimal liquid.
chemical equilibrium31 Mar 2008 00:06 GMT11
Consider the reaction:
A -> B + C
If the reactor already has substantial B and C in it, the reaction
will not proceed as far to the right as it would without B and C (Le

I-131 in thyroid cancer , medicine student question30 Mar 2008 21:59 GMT3
May I ask you about the molecular mechanisim of the Iodo 131 in the
destruction of thyroid canceorus cells?
I-131 is used in radiotheraphy while i-129 is use in image diagnosis
for contrast.

Opacity alteration of material due to hydrocarbon gas30 Mar 2008 01:17 GMT6
Does any know how the following is possible or even better if there is
a product for it?
Transparent surface to visible light, when is in contact with
hydrocarbon gas to alter the color of the surface or even better alter
Inorganic texts29 Mar 2008 07:04 GMT4
I am currently enrolled in a short (1.5 credit) course, a precursor to
Inorganic. We are covering applications of group theory in molecules -
character tables and the like. Unfortunately, I am finding the text
(Shriver, Atkins 3rd ed) to be unintelligible refuse in this area ...
carbonic acid28 Mar 2008 17:47 GMT25
I'm reading Maxwell's Theory of Heat and enjoying it quite a bit. I just
read his description of experiments on liquid-gas transitions of carbonic
acid. I guess I'm confused by one thing: I think of carbonic acid as
selzter and basically unstable. So, I don't understand why, in ...
Epoxy stiffness?28 Mar 2008 15:02 GMT7
I need an epoxy that is stiff to the point of brittle. I want no flex; it has
to transmit vibration as close to 100% as possible. It's not carrying any
weight, so strength isn't important. I'm just tired of finding only epoxies
that seem to keep their resin-y qualities after ...
Heard the One About the Farmer's Ethanol?28 Mar 2008 14:49 GMT8
Interesting book just published: Gusher of Lies: The Dangerous Delusions of
Energy Independence by Robert Bryce.
Uncle Al should do a drumroll and say I told you so...

Waste water neutralization-pH27 Mar 2008 17:18 GMT4
Hi, I came across one article relating pH control of waste water. It's batch
neutralization (pharmaceutical waste waters, from different types of API).
It says:
1. bring pH to 14 (with 20% NaOH)
Synthesis of 3,5 dimethoxy benzyl alcohol27 Mar 2008 00:22 GMT2
I've been asked to develop a means of synthesis of 3,5 dimethoxy
benzyl alcohol.  The meta-addition of the second -OCH3 group is giving
me trouble.
What is / are the common means of synthesis for this compound ?
Chemistry advice required by a Biologist26 Mar 2008 18:52 GMT3
I am a lowly biologist after some chemistry advice. I came across an
article about 10+ years ago that descibed a few methane-based
compounds that when added to water form ice at near room temperatures.
I cannot track the article down - any ideas where I can out about such

how to charge a wave?24 Mar 2008 23:32 GMT5
In wave particle duality. Momentum of particle is attributed to
frequency in a wave. How about charge? How can you put
charge into a wave? I'm studying the molecular orbital
of the C60 molecule which can interfere with itself in the double
