Sorry for any confusion generated from my message about "Google Scholar."  I
intended for that message to go to "Lepex-L" (Lepidopterists' Society
listserv), but sent it here instead, by mistake.  My apologies.

I've posted a picture in   alt.binaries.pictures.nature   that looks
like a grasshopper but the rear end isn't there. What kind of insect is it?
It has the same subject as this message.
One rear leg is missing, not my fault!

under Diptera sites.
The fly was buzzing a patron in a drug store in Lumberton MS.  The

Strange caterpillar found in North Wales.20 Nov 2004 00:00 GMT1
I've been told that a number of strange caterpillar-like insects have been
found in a garden in Buckley, Flintshire. These apparently are very hard to
identify but have either a beak or ovipositor at the front which when they
feel threatened as a defensive tactic they withdraw,  ...

Is anyone out there familiar with the Seitz Macrolepidoptera of the World
publisher: "Die Gross-Schmetterlinge der Erde"?
Is the quality of these recently published versions any good? They are
asking $1,250 for volume 5 (English edition).
ID required for UK specimen19 Nov 2004 23:47 GMT3
I'm not knowledgable about this subject at all but need to try and identify
a creature I saw earlier this week.
It was a moth or butterfly seen moving amongst flowers (pansies mainly)
collecting pollen with a seemingly prehensile proboscis. It moved with
spiny caterpillar in Jalisco19 Nov 2004 23:15 GMT1
I received some email photos of a very spinose caterpillar from Bosque la
Primavera reserve in Jalisco, Mexico.  The little guy is about 2 inches long
and has a green body but it has long, white, plumose spines in transverse
bands from one end to the other, giving it a white ...

Identify a spider?05 Nov 2004 16:50 GMT2
I've seen this kind of spider hanging around my house, and wondered if
anybody could help me identify it.  I found this one who was
apparently in the early stages of eating a caterpillar, neat pics. :)

Spider ID?04 Nov 2004 01:58 GMT3
Some sort of spider (or possibly several species) have infested my
porch.  I'm afraid they might be dangerous, and their webs look big
enough to catch birds (!).  You can see them at:
