Can somebody help me ID this insect? This beautiful red dragonfly was

I wonder if anyone has any idea of what kind of butterfly this is, I live in
the UK and have never seen anything like it before, I searched on Google UK
butterflies images but couldn't find a match, the image is a bit blurry as
it was getting dark and the flash doesn't work with ...

I'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me what this small bug
is.  The only place I see them on the inside is around sinks, door
frames and windows, but they're everywhere outside of the house.  My
15 month old son throws food all over the place, and I've never seen

I note in the marvellous new Moths of Western North America that Synanthedon novaroensis is mis-spelled as navaroensis....................but then I got to thinking that just because MONA and followers spell it novaroensis does not mean that is correct............... why not ...

I found a few of these basking on rolls of carpet outside my parent's
home in the Midlands of England (near the city of Derby). The photo
was taken in late Spring.

I've found several of these guys in my small backyard garden:

They resemble Japanese beetles, but are smaller (about 7mm) and
instead of a shiny bronze-colored back have light brown backs with
