Structure of nucleus of amoeba27 Mar 2006 16:37 GMT7
I am searching for info on detailed structure of amoeba or any
protozoa. I would like to know which elements of nature constitute
nucleus, moleculer structure etc.
Aim is to figure out what makes that nucleus to 'feel' hungry and look
Hypothetical question -- Butter and Bacteria26 Mar 2006 18:23 GMT40
Lets say a stick of unsalted, annato-free, purely-natural, organic,
cow-milk butter is placed in an small box free of air, oxidants, and
any other agents that could cause rancidity. In addition, lets also say
that this box is free of all living organisms, excluding non-acidic
Can Bacteria Digest and Metabolize Lipids?26 Mar 2006 03:52 GMT16
I am curious as to whether any anaerobic bacteria can digest and
metabolize lipids? If so, do these bacteria produce foul-odors directly
as a by-product of their lipid-consumption?
Thanks,
Bacteria Causing Butter to Stink Like Cheese26 Mar 2006 01:20 GMT1
Here is my theoretical ["magical" is probably a better word] situation
I have a box [which contains a stick of butter] that does not let in
anything foreign microbes other than anaerobic bacteria. Also, the pH
of the butter is [for some mircalous reason] at least 7 before, during
16S Ribosomal RNA Based Microbs identification25 Mar 2006 09:52 GMT1
I am a student doing research in environmental microbiology particularly interested in biodegradation. Can anyone send me any information or a protocol for 16S Ribosomal RNA based identification of microorganisms.

Can anyone give any information on photoautotrophs, photoheterotrophs,
chemoautotrphs and chemoheterotrophs?
Body Odor, Bacteria, and Rancidity22 Mar 2006 05:26 GMT3
I am aware that most cases of body odor involve bacteria feeding on
organic substances in the sweat, sebum and dead skin cells. My question
is, is body odor also caused by rancidity of body oils and other
substances?
Petri dishes !22 Mar 2006 04:46 GMT7
In Europe at leasts the price of plastic disposables is escalating  as I
write. Today I turned my mind to ways of redesigning the humble but
ubiquitous Petri dish to counter the current trend and thus make them
cheaper  to produce and perhaps a little more eco friendly. The ...
Acetic vs citric acid20 Mar 2006 22:17 GMT2
Dear Sir,
I came across a web posting online by Davin C. Enigl which was posted a couple of years ago. I'm not sure if he is still here, but I would very much like to obtain the articles that he wrote on the subject.
I found his message on the following link. http://www.bio ...

Helicobacter pylorii18 Mar 2006 18:41 GMT1

one depending on enviromental condition

Signal peptides sequences for E.coli17 Mar 2006 18:40 GMT3
my question is simple, i suppose, r there any list of signal peptides
recognised by E.coli (u use DH5alpha strains in expression exps) 'cause
I have to be sure that protein (with its signal sequence) from
Salmonella Enterica (still Enterobacteriaceae:)) will be processed in
Can anybody identify this?15 Mar 2006 06:54 GMT5
First, sorry if this is too far off-topic, but I figured I could
perhaps enlist the expertise of the people in this group to help me
with this.  As an intro, I am an amateur brewer and winemaker.  I have
a basically no knowledge of micro-organisms that aren't Saccharomyces
